Nerves - Just Nerves?

Patients ask us, "Can Chiropractic do anything for nervous tension?"

We live in a day and age of nervous tension with tranquilizers, such as Valium and Xanax, being among the most sold prescription drugs in America. It is estimated that one in seven adult Americans are taking some sort of nerve pill.  People also blame other conditions on nerves.  Theye will say, "my stomach problem is due to nerves; my headaches are due to nerves." 

In many cases they are right, the problem is nerves, but the real trouble is actually the nerves in the spine. Your brain sends out, through the spinal cord, over 3 million nerve impulses every second.  The impulses then travel out to the body, through the nerve fibers, which exit between each vertebrae of the spine.  Any pressure on these delicate nerve fibers will cause health problems including nervous tension.  Imagine walking all day with a pebble in your shoe.  The irritation from the pebble would upset you.  Likewise, if spinal nerves are irritated by pressure, the signals going out to the body will be upset.  It is easy to imagine that you would not be as calm, nor would you  feel as good as you would like.

Chiropractors correct the nerve irritation, and allow the signals to travel out to the body uninterrupted.  It is a safe and effective method of treatment for many conditions blamed on nerves.
