Sciatica - Hip and Leg Pain

Sciatica is a frequently misunderstood and under-rated disease condition. Actually sciatica is a painful inflammation of the sciatic nerve, which supplies the tissues of the thigh, lower leg and foot. It is most often caused by a pinching of one or more spinal nerve roots between misaligned spinal bones (vertebrae) of the lower back. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body. It is very long and about as big around as the thumb. Interference or irritation along its course can cause crippling pain.

Sciatic pain my be tearing and sharp, or it may be a numbness, burning, tingling, prickling, or crawling sensation. Even strong pain killing drugs bring little or no relief. It is almost impossible to find a comfortable position. Rarely do misaligned vertebrae correct themselves spontaneously.  The answer lies in the experience, training, and skill of a doctor of chiropractic.
